How Does Solar Power Work?

Ever wondered how solar power, panels and inverters all work to get electricity to your house… day and night?

During the day, the sunlight hits your solar panels and is directly converted to DC power through the solar cells.  This power then travels to the inverter box where is it converted to usable AC power.  This is the same type of electricity provided by your local utility company. You use this power directly throughout your house. The surplus gets sold back to the power grid, via net metering, crediting your account.

At night when the solar panels are not producing electricity, your house will use power from the grid… you are only charged for electricity that exceeds your credits.  Residential solar installations are grid-tied, so you always have access to electricity.
